I am asking out of curiosity. I know everyone tends to do whatever method works best for them. Also, I know it depends on the state and the area. It seems like guys these days don't do enough background checks or take experience seriously and that is why you end up with people quitting left and right.

We always end up hiring someone who knows someone. The few outsides we did take in always get background checks done and a trial period. We don't allow people to just get hired by taking their word for it. That is just asking for trouble.

We run a process of background checks, drug tests, ect. like any other job. There are certain things we let slide like marijuana because a lot of guys use it for pain relief and it is better to be on that than these pain killers docs hand out like candy. We just ask that you never show up for work drunk or high.

We tend to do what other places do. We look over the application, do an interview, get a drug test done, and then hire. We tend to ask for work experience in general, not just roofing. I came into this company as a new guy myself, look at the name, and they worked with me and I learned from them.

We do the basics like mentioned though I think the background checks and drugs tests should be done a lot better. We have had guys come and go over the last year who you could tell were on something or did something in their past.

We look over their application then do background checking. We always ask the applicant if they have someone that have already experience then we get the contact info for that person.

Well where I worked, we always did hiring based on experience. We were willing to overlook a bad past if you could prove yourself in good favor now. We actually had a few guys who were in prison previously. One of them has been there 17 years. He thanked my former boss for saving his life. He would not have been able to find work otherwise.

Background checks, drug tests, and general interviews to test people on their skill level and education. We won't turn away someone who has not finished High school but you need to be able to pass our math test.

We always run a full background check. We have had so many issues with straight up criminals and just lazy guys trying to work for us. One dude stole money and jewelry from a house and then denied it AFTER showing footage by the homeowner. This happened in 2005 so since then, we don't take chances.
