This is something I have not heard of happening, or maybe I was just never told of it lol so yeah, one of my husband's lovely new workers didn't lock a ladder right and it dropped half way and slammed right into the owner's front window! Good thing no one was home or in the room when it happened but needless to say, we have to pay for the repairs.

Have you ever done anything like this while on a job?

I’ve never done anything like that myself.  I saw some guy mess up a gutter once.  What a mess that turned out to be.  I’m usually overly cautious to the point of being paranoid.

It happens.  I’ve seen it all and then some.  I’ve learned the best way to handle things is apologize quickly and promptly fix the problem.  We all make mistakes, the biggest mistake is not handling them properly.

I actually did something last week by mistake. Nothing major but when I was clearing a roof off I over through some shingles and hit a bird bath. It fell pretty hard and broke. The owners were understanding and refused for it to be replaced.

It happens all the time, it's just a part of doing business. Most of the time it is carelessness or people are just in too much of a hurry. The main thing is that the problem is addressed and a solution offered to fix it.

I am sure I have but nothing major. I think it is expected which is why roofing companies have insurance for things like this.

I totally agree. I've seen it quite a bit on jobs I've been on. Most of the time it is just minor things, but every once in a while a window or something like that will get broken.

I've never broken anything myself, but a few of the other guys on the crew have. I'm usually too careful and going at a slow pace to do any major damage.
